#1 History behind C-Language

1. C-Language is High language and it replaced more familiar languages. Such as, FORTRAN, COBOL, BASIC, PL/I and Pascal.

2. In 1960, There are so many languages existence for specific purpose.

For Example:-
·     COBOL was being used for commercial applications.
·     FORTRAN for Engineering and Scientific applications.

3. The committee came out with a language ALGOL60 because it is difficult to use too many languages. However ALGOL60 never became popular because it seemed too abstract.

4. A new language called Combined Programming Language (CPL) was developed at Cambridge University but, it was very hard to learn and difficult to implement.
5. To solve the problems by bringing CPL down to its basic good feature. Basic Combined programming language (BCPL) was developed by Martin Richards at Cambridge University. But unfortunately it turned to be less powerful and too specific.

6. Around sometimes language called B was written by Ken Thompson at AT and T’s bell laboratory of USA. But like (BCPL), B too turns out to be very specific.

7. Then around 1972, C language which was developed at AT and T’s bell laboratories of USA. It was designed and written by Dennis Ritchie.
